About Us
FRAME WORKS is a locally owned custom frame shop located in the Village Square - 5800 Merle Hay Road in Johnston Iowa. FRAME WORKS was opened in 2004. Tom Perrine bought the frame shop August 15, 2008. Tom continues to offer one of the finest selections of framing supplies in the area, represented by Larson - Juhl, TC Moulding and Nurre Caxton frames. FRAME WORKS carries over 700 frame styles to select from. Tom has added a line of unique sculptures from Global Views, Hawkeye and Cyclone posters, art work from local artists and hosts art shows in the gallary space.
FRAME WORKS also offers photo restoration services as well as unique ways to turn your photos into canvas prints, in a variety of art styles - such as pastel, oil painting, watercolors or into "pop art" prints.
Tom comes from a varied background having worked as a Visual Merchandiser, Television Studio Dresser/Manager, Director of a Comedy Improv Troupe, Director of a Teen Theatre Troupe and has worn many hats in the local community theatre scene - costume designer, make-up designer, set designer and as director for many productions with StageWest Theater Company. Tom is also a member of the local stagehand union working backstage for many of the touring shows that visit the Civic Center and Wells Fargo Arena. Before purchasing FRAME WORKS Tom had worked for over 9 years for a non-profit helping adults with mental illness. Tom was awarded a Heroes in the Fight Award from Eli Lilly in 2008 for his work with adults with Mental Illness.

Artist of the Month
Each month FRAME WORKS brings you art from local artists. Currently we are featuring three photographers from Iowa.
First we have photos by Larry Mendenhall's Quiet Places Photography. Larry, who also works part-time at the frame shop offers unique and beautiful large scale photography.
Second we have photography by Dana Barrer from Mitchellville. Dana offers many cityscapes of Des Moinesas well photography from his trips both acrossthe country and abroad.
New to FRAME WORKS is the photography of John Knutson. John lives in Des Moines and offers Des Moines cityscapes in both color and black and white.

"Painted Desert"
Frame Works is pleased to announce Naturescapres: Near and Far, a photography exhibition with Larry Mendenhall. The show will open at Frame Works on Friday, November 4, 2011 and hang in the gallery until December 3, 2011. Please join us for the opening reception November 4 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm and meet Larry. Enjoy some wine, some hors d'oeuvres and some great photography.
In Naturescapes: Near and Far Larry explores the dazzling shapes and colors of nature found in both grand vistas and intimate close-ups.
After a career as a newspaper photographer and reporter, Larry began concentrating on landscape photography in 1998. Since 2003, his work has been selected for numerous juried exhibits and art shows. Most recently, he received the Best of Show award at the Octogon Art Festival in Ames. Although he works mainly in color, for the last year Larry has been adding black and white images to his portfolio. Some of these new photographs will be seen for the first time at this show.

Frame Works is pleased to announce an exhibition of the artwork of Linda Kielsmeier. The show will open at Frame Works on Friday, April 1, 2011 and hang in the gallery until April 30, 2011. Please join us for the opening reception 5:00pm to 7:00pm and meet Linda Kielsmeier.
Linda Kielsmeier is a graduate of Iowa State University with a BA degree in Applied Art Advertising Design. She worked as a graphic artist for several years and then began to pursue a fine art education by taking classes at the University of Northern Iowa, pastel painting classes from Jean Murray of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and charcoal and pastel painting classes from Mary Muller of Des Moines, Iowa.
Please join us on Friday, April 1, 2011 to meet Linda. Come and enjoy some wine, some food and help support this talented local artist who works primarily in charcoal, pastel and acrylics.

Rough Mix Society
A Photography Show featuring works by DMACC Photography Students

Please join us on Friday December 3, 2010 from 5-7pm for the opening reception for our 4th collaboration with the DMACC Photograghy Department. We will be featuring the works of six photography students - Austin Day, Tera Reed, Kelly Domeyer, Addison Nielson, Malia Davis and Katherine Hanson. The DAMCC Photograpghy shows are always fun with impressive work by these young photographers. We hope you can attend the opening night reception - enjoy some food, some wine and of course some fine photograghy. All of the works will be for sale - making perfect Holiday gifts for those hard to buy for people. If you can not attend the opening reception, stop in at another time as the works will hang in the gallery until January 1. 2011.
Jeffrey Jerome Dean - The EXIGENCY Exhibition
FRAME WORKS in collaboration with Iowa artist Jeffrey Jerome Dean is pleased to announce new works in the EXIGENCY series. The new pieces were added to the collection currently at FRAME WORKS. The exhibition started Oct 23, 2010 and will hang in the gallery until November 28, 2010
