Artist’s Statement:
Webster’s New Universal Dictionary defines local color as 1) distinctive, picturesque characteristics or peculiarities of a place; 2) fine arts, the natural color of a particular object as it appears in normal light.
When Ron was young he dreamed of becoming a famous painter, but eventually discovered that photography was a better medium for him. Ron’s approach to subject matter and composition is greatly influenced by the Masters of 20th Century American painting, especially Norman Rockwell, Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth. Ron is fascinated by the properties of light and color that transform the banal into the beautiful and make the commonplace appear extraordinary. All of Ron’s photos were taken in Des Moines and the suburbs during 2010 – 2015.
