We Think Outside The Frame!

Tom Perrine of Frame Works

Thanks for visiting the Frame Works website!

Welcome to Frame Works, a premier source of custom picture framing in Johnston, Iowa. We’re a locally-owned full service picture framing & art gallery located in the Village Square. Our skilled designers provide each and every client with creative solutions for their art, framing and decorating needs. We like to “think outside the frame” when working with clients to help them preserve their memories with creative designs. Frame Works was established in 2004. Tom Perrine & Bob Baskerville, owners since 2008, strive to offer the best customer service, materials, designs, and variety to residential and corporate clients.

At Frame Works we work with a casual, friendly approach.  We listen to our clients to understand what and why they may be framing something.  We want to know the “story behind the frame” so we can help our clients make the best choices for their framing project.  We pride ourselves on providing quality framing in a no pressure, friendly atmosphere.

Frame Works has one of the finest selections of framing supplies in the area, represented by Larson-Juhl, TC Moulding and Nurre Caxton frames – over 700 frame styles!  We’re an active member of the Des Moines art community. We showcase art work from local artists, host art shows in the gallery, sell a unique line of sculptures from Global Views, and have a wide variety of art prints for purchase. Frame Works also offers digital photo restoration services as well as unique ways to turn your photos into canvas prints.

Tom comes from a varied background, having worked as a Visual Merchandiser, Television Studio Dresser/Manager, Director of a Comedy Improv Troupe, and Director of a Teen Theater Troupe. He has worn many hats in the local community theater scene – costume designer, make-up designer, set designer and director for many productions with Tallgrass Theater Company.  Tom is also a member of the local stagehand union working backstage for many of the touring shows that visit the Civic Center and Wells Fargo Arena.  Before purchasing Frame Works, Tom had worked for over 9 years for a non-profit helping adults with mental illness.  Tom was awarded a Heroes in the Fight Award from Eli Lilly in 2008 for his work with adults with Mental Illness.

Kelly Mayhew has been at Frame Works since January of 2016. A Theatre major in college propelled her into the world of retail and volunteer community theatre. After having kids she decided to quit her job and become a Stay At Home Mom, where her creativity was poured into local theatre. Finding her niche in West Des Moines, she met and started working with Tom in 2010 on all aspects of theatre. When he decided to attend a conference in Vegas for Framing and needed someone responsible and creative to watch the shop, she jumped at the opportunity. Now a designer & framer, she is gaining experience every day. Thanks to Tom and his patient teaching as well as a trove of information from our passionate vendors, Kelly is enjoying this new career. Her first thing to ask a customer is, “What is your favorite thing about this piece that inspired you to have it custom framed?” then she can help guide them to highlight that aspect of the art and they’ll enjoy it for years to come.
